Bookbinding -
The Buttonhole Journal – Instructor: Anna Low
There are hundreds of ways to bind a book and we’ll be exploring one
of my favorites in this class - The buttonhole binding. I love this
style because it’s decorative, with lots of opportunity to include
beautiful paper and threads, but also very functional and sturdy. In
class we’ll start at the very beginning, folding signatures for our
pages and designing our own paper covers. We’ll punch sewing stations
and bind it all together with the buttonhole stitch. You’ll leave
class with a gorgeous blank book to use as a journal, sketchbook or
idea book. No previous bookbinding experience needed, folks 15 years

Three Books: An Introduction to Bookbinding – Instructor:
Anna Low
Have you ever wanted to bind your own books? This is the
introductory class for you. We’re going to dive right in and make
three small books using three different binding techniques. We’ll
start with a traditional Japanese stab binding, using an awl to
punch sewing stations and bind loose pages. Next we’ll make a
diminutive accordion fold book with a hard cover. Accordion fold
books are great fun to write stories in and make illustrations
because the fold up like a book but can be pull open to display all
of the pages at once. Finally, we’ll fold and bind a decorative
pamphlet stitch book. With each book we make, you’ll have a
selection of decorative papers for the covers and heavyweight paper
for the pages. As we bind, we’ll discuss papers, binding techniques
and book forms. You will walk out of class with three beautiful
blank books, each about 4” tall which can be used as notebooks,
address books, or petit journals, and the skills to keep binding at
home. No previous bookbinding experience needed, folks of all ages
welcome, and I’ll bring all the supplies you need!

“Double knitting
is a form of knitting in which two fabrics are knit simultaneously with
two yarns on one pair of needles.” That is how Wikipedia describes it

images is produced on each side of the knitted fabric... if the design
is black and white on one side, it will be white and black on the
other. In this class you will learn the special techniques to create
this type of fabric with interesting options for casting on and off.
Our small class project will let you experience the world of this

Nuno Felted
Scarves
-
Instructor:
Nancy Dorian
Using Nuno felting techniques, be prepared to be elated
as you transform layers of hand-painted silk, wool roving and novelty
art yarns into gorgeous flowing fabric. During the felting process, the
wool fibers migrate through the weave of the silk and entangle, pulling
the silk and any other embellishments along with them as they shrink.
This results in an incredibly lightweight garment that drapes the body
beautifully. In this one-day workshop we will cover design, layout,

Felted Jellyroll Trivet -
Instructor:
Kendra Rafford
Felted Jellyroll Trivets is a great wet
felting project for all abilities. This fun and funky project is
essentially a big fat tube that is sliced into disks that are then
attached together. The mystery and fun surrounding this project is the
design of the inner core. Students will learn how to achieve designs
ranging from a kaleidoscope effect to a more uniform bull's-eye. We'll
begin by creating a small sample in which you'll learn proper layering
techniques and the sequential steps needed to achieve a firm felted
cord. It's then on to creating the roll that will become your trivet.
Different techniques for securing your disks together will be covered in
class, however much of this work will be done at home. Although we'll
be using this technique to make trivets, it's also great for buttons and
jewelry. We'll spend a little time exploring this avenue as time
allows.

clothing, belts, curtain tie-backs, etc.
The workshop is a beginning course in
reading patterns, threading cards and producing a short band. Materials
included are 12 cards, shuttle, thread and instruction sheets. No
previous weaving experience is needed. Just have fun and learn a new
fiber craft!
